As a U.S. territory, passports are not required for entry and work in the USVI. The island is approximately 28 miles long and 8 miles wide, and is home to 50,000 residents. Tourism is a major industry for St. Croix, as there are numerous resorts, beaches and vacation homes on the island. St. Croix offers many things to do, including world class scuba diving and snorkeling, kayaking, horseback riding, jeep tours, cultural and historic tours, along with great dining and other activities. Housing- As a resort island, housing on St. Croix in the winter months is likely to be more expensive than the continental U.S., with the exception of places like Boston and New York. Although plans are not finalized, NEARiX is expecting to provide housing assistance, likely in the form of a subsidy or actual housing. Details forthcoming when available. Transportation- Although St Croix does have a public transportation system, the best way to get around the island is by car (We drive on the left, but with American left-hand drive cars. Don’t worry! You get used to it, and the drivers are some of the most courteous in the world.) Since it is not practical to bring a car to the island, NEARiX is expecting to arrange for car availability for co-op students. Details forthcoming when available. !)
