Solitary Christmas #3 is about done. Walked twelve miles, screened Scrooge, screened the most depressing Christmas movie ever in All Mine to Give (Scottish family comes to America, likable dad takes job at timber mill, quotes Burns, has likable wife, he croaks, then she croaks, then the kids start trying to find homes for the youngest and then the next youngest, like giving away siblings, and then they ask to have one last Christmas together, and the film ends with two dead parents and siblings who no longer know each other; ho ho), listened to some obscure Victorian Christmas carols on a few LPs, worked on the memoir, sent out some work stuff, made a list of the dozen places that owe me money--very Ebenezer--and had a pint at Dirty Nellys and read some Christmas mystery short stories there. Bit bleak. Maybe next year Ill have my house back. For the people who said Id have stuff to before the month is out, it might be the first week of January. This year has gassed me. But now it is time for this. I start listening to it around my birthday in September, and I like that it was recorded in late February. The idea of Christmas, or its spirit, the year round, once pleased me greatly, and I hope it does so again at some point. If youve never heard this, and youre deep in your chair right now, the nog swimming about your brain, the day both exhilarating and tiring, or else your mind cast back to some Christmas past, or maybe your hopes pinned to a better future one, dim the lights, close your eyes, maybe pour a dram of whisky, and have a special experience. And that fragile business in A Christmas Story never fails to give me a giggle. Ditto the duck getting its head lopped off at the end in the Chinese restaurant. https://youtube/watch?v=Hv4-sgFw3Go
