Some 600,000 people in Texas lack state-issued IDs, according to the U.S. Justice Department. Texas just upheld the law that voter IDs are required to vote. I dont really feel bad for them. These folks have had a very long time to get ids. In 2011, the Texas Legislature passed Senate Bill 14 (SB 14) creating a new requirement for voters to show photo identification when voting in person. What am I missing? They had notice. Three years...They just couldnt swing that...How is a law harmful to civil rights when its asking for the most basic form of identification? How is it possible to defend someones civil rights if they cant even take responsibility for such a basic thing? Look I get it. Some people work two jobs because of their low income status, but 3 years! You dont work 1095 days without a day off. If you dont have a vehicle, get on a bus or bum a ride. There are seven acceptable forms of ID in Texas. Texas has implemented compassionate permanent disability exemptions. For the people that arent exempt, what is their excuse, and what is the DSM categorization for apologists wholl find a way to rationalize this behavior and premise their opposition to the bill as a violation of civil rights?
