Some books entertain you, some make you cry, some make you laugh - TopicsExpress

Some books entertain you, some make you cry, some make you laugh and yet, some more, make you dream. One thing is for certain, though.A book never fails to amaze and add something extraordinary to every moment that we spend reading them. My nomination comes from very old quarters. An old friend asks me to list ten books that have made an impact on me. There are more than ten. However, for the sake of tradition, these are the ten books out of the hundreds, that made me cry, helped me grow, impacted me irrevocably and most probably, stop and think, that made me look at the world with new eyes. There is one book however, which I consider to be more than a book. Its a way of life for me. It has been my pillar of strength in times dire and happy alike. It has always been the reassuring voice in the frenzied world, telling me my dreams are real and very much achievable. To everybody, these are the ten :- 1. The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand 2. The Alchemist by Paolo Coelho 3. The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini 4. Midnights Children by Salman Rushdie 5. Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts 6. Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson 7. Kafka On The Shore by Haruki Murakami 8. Ujale Apni Yaado Ke, compilation of Bashir Badrs Urdu poetry edited and published by my father. 9. Raag Darbari by Shrilaal Shukl 10. Kahlil Gibrans many works. Not really books per se. I wish I could have added ten more :) Also, Id want more people to add books In Hindi and other languages. Dont overlook these because of the bias against uncool languages. Please, stop trying convince people of your intellect and start developing one. Im sorry if it sounded rude, but I think its time Indian literature got its due. Wanted to tag certain people but have been out of touch with them lately.
