View Archive Specials here: oberondesign/journal-covers/archive-specials.html The Rodeo sport originated with Spanish ranchers and their Mexican ranch hands or vaqueros, influenced by cattle wrangling and Spanish roots to bull fighting that date to 16th century conquistadors. In other words, bullfighting & steer wrestling, a sport in ancient Mediterranean cultures, evolved over centuries into modern bull riding. Bill Pickett, a black cowboy from Texas created the modern version of steer wrestling became a famous performer in the Wild West exhibition shows at the turn of the 20th century. He called what he did, bulldogging, which included dominating the bull by biting it on its lips! However, lip biting was not popular with most other cowboys and was never codified in official rules.
