Some of my best friendship have started out with tension,conflict,and a lack of respect on my part.I think we all have preconceived idea and life encumbering pressuposions that arent valid.However when a man examines his own heart and ask The Holy Spirit to reveal his lack of understanding The LORD will do it.This is what I attempt to do before I jump to any ill fated conclusions.Im still a work in process at the age of 60.I pray I never get to the point not questioning my own heart and motives towards anyone ever again.Real friends should always be comfortable challenging you when they see some of your blind spots.At times we think we are 6 feet above criticism or infallable.When we dont examine our hearts and motives towards others theres a break down in communication and resentment and bitterness sets in creating a bitter spirit.I have learned out late to listen intently to the other persons point of view without interrupting them.I also attempt to not have a rebuttal to their point of view before they have time to explain it.Nothing causes more bitterness than to think their not being heard.And finally when i sense theirs a misunderstanding i ask them politely what did you hear me just say and how can I help you to understand what Im trying to say.It helps to be willing to remain humble during this and be willing to say I want to hear your heart on this issue and can you help me to understand better.I have some incredible new friends now that challenge me and remain patient with me when we disagree on issues.Give it a try and pray with them before and after the conversation.Amit when you are wrong,ask forgiveness,and remain loving even when you dont always agree.GOD IS LOVE.
