Some of our guides have helped with a monitoring program in the Grand Canyon. We call it bug duty. They set traps and collect insects, count them, and keep statistics that are then turned over to the fish people. The fish folks study the native fishes of the Colorado River. This 7-minute video explains their work and the importance of the data that is voluntarily collected by the guides. (And no, the dog is not on a river trip. No dogs allowed in the Grand Canyon. Its a nice looking dog, though.) youtube/watch?v=2TxLWlrw7y4&list=PLIxlFowAfHBCS11uO5KBrx2bvPBDUbehG
