Some of you may remember my blog dedicated to the women who came of age and who served in WW1 - in Britain and throughout Europe, they were the first generation of women in modern times to go to war in significant numbers. When I launched the blog - maisiedobbs, it was with the intention of writing regular essay-length posts on a variety of subjects highlighting the achievements, great and small, of this generation. When my father became ill and subsequently passed away in 2012, I had to abandon the blog - there simply was not enough time in my days. But I wanted to come back to it, and though I thought I might, it never seemed to be quite the right time. Today seemed to be the right time, especially as I wanted to reprint another recent personal essay, about that extraordinary WW1 generation of women. So, if you go along to maisiedobbs, you can read my essay - which was recently published on The Daily Beast website - and you can also read some of the essays I wrote before having to put the blog on a back burner.
