Some people may wonder why I even bother putting up a death notice regarding a creepy invertebrate like a tarantula or scorpion. Its true they arent cuddly or even remotely intelligent like a dog/cat/ferret or bird, and even snakes, lizards and amphibians have a lot more personality. But I respect all lifeforms and for those in my care - I try to make their captivity as natural as possible (within reason). I find they have a certain beauty to them - maybe not in an aesthetic sense, but of form and function. Ive always liked arthropods and spent years studying them as far back as in elementary school, and later insect display cases in local and the NYS fair as a 4-H project. Later as part of my biology major at FSU, I took numerous courses in insect taxonomy and ecology. At one point I wanted to attend Cornell University for a degree in Entomology, but the cost was too daunting. I no longer pin specimens , but much prefer to capture them with my DSLR. I still need a good macro lens (I only have a threaded macro attachment), but I can fairly well using my zoom lenses on larger ones.
