Someone asked, Who the hell are the Pretty Things? The Pretty - TopicsExpress

Someone asked, Who the hell are the Pretty Things? The Pretty Things were the real bad boys of the British Invasion when they emerged in 1964 with an attitude that made the Rolling Stones look like choir boys by comparison! Back in the 1960s, a popular question and answer among the establishment was: How would you feel if your daughter dated a Rolling Stone? How would you feel if your daughter was within a mile of a Pretty Thing? While the Rolling Stones did an awesome version of Dont Lie to Me, the Pretty Things version was a loud, gritty and nasty version with an attitude that made the Stones version sound like elevator music by comparison! The Pretty Things didnt make much of an impact in the States. One possible reason was because the Pretty Things management booked the band to tour Australia (while most of the British Invasion artists got booked to tour the States). The lack of exposure in the States damaged their chance of fame and (or course) their record sales. The Pretty Things continued to record and released several albums, including S.F. SORROW which was an overlooked masterpiece as they ventured into psychedelia in 1968. In 1973, David Bowie, on his PIN-UPS album, paid tribute to the Pretty Things with his version of Rosalyn and Dont Bring Me Down. Sire Records in 1976, released a 2-LP compilation of the Pretty Things, titled THE VINTAGE YEARS. ENJOY!
