Something magical takes place behind car doors… Maybe it’s because of the inherent lack of eye contact that allows people to open up without feeling awkward... Maybe it’s because not paying attention to and reacting to someone’s facial expressions allows you to speak without editing your thoughts... Maybe it’s because the brain is partially engaged with the act of driving... Maybe it’s because the inside of a car feels like an isolated, safe place to talk, protected from the judgments of the outside world... Whatever the reason, some of my favourite conversations have taken place in car journeys. I’ve found it’s the one environment where people are their most candid, honest and reveal the most about their fears, desires and character. From cab drivers, my family, acquaintances to my closest friends, the car journey is where I’ve often learned the most about them and the most from them. I’ve always believed that every human being has a story and struggle fascinating enough for the makings of an Oscar winning film. The car journey is where I’m invited into that story and struggle. The car journey is where I’ve bonded with many of the people who have entered my life. I tried to capture a typical car journey with my closest friend, Elizabeth. Nothing was scripted or planned. It begins with Elizabeth telling the story of her first lesbian experience… https://youtube/watch?v=kOWDkkkeROg
