Sometimes It Just Happens That Way I spent most of yesterday on the kit. I was meant to go watch a band and I’m sorry that I didn’t go, but I need to spend at least one day a weekend playing drums. It’s a new deal that I’ve made with myself. I think that Sunday is the best day to do that because it’s a great way to wind down and if I’m pissed about anything, I can just take it out on the kit, which I love. Also, I could use the practice. I am quite proud of my efforts yesterday. I warmed up with one of my favourite Aussie songs, I played all the way through the Born In The USA album without stopping for a tea/pee break and without needing to stop because I just can’t get the feel of the song. This means that I’m improving, it’s an improvement that I can see rather than just having my teacher reassuringly tell me that I am getting better when he sees that look on my face that says “why can’t I just be as good as you already? I’m trying really hard”. The other thing I have to remind myself is that I used to have to give up on holding time with Dancing In The Dark because it was too damn fast. I’m still at the stage of bluffing my way through the tracks, but at least I can bluff my way through now. After Born In The USA, I did some more work on that thing I can’t talk about, the patterns for Glory Days and Dancing In The Dark, as well as work on The Secret. It was a productive day. If I could, I would spend every day like that and in summer, I probably will, but right now, it’s winter, I’m in bed early cause it’s cold and then I’m trying to find a way to ease myself into sleep. I need to play bass more. Maybe I could do that in bed instead? Anyway, I’m off to play drums and finish breakfast and watching Live at the Hammersmith. Everyone needs motivation, don’t they?
