Sometimes, when its a lazy day with nothing planned, I will sit - TopicsExpress

Sometimes, when its a lazy day with nothing planned, I will sit outside under the giant old tree in my backyard and randomly listen to the thousands of songs Ive digitally stored away. Today, this cruise led me on a journey that somehow landed on over an hour of Moms Apple Pie music recorded in the early 1970s. Its been a while since I really sat and listened to Moms Apple Pie so it was time well spent. Moms Apple Pie is a band that formed nearly forty five years ago and it was made up of ten guys from Warren, Ohio. They released two albums, Moms Apple Pie in 1972 and Moms Apple Pie II in 1973. Both albums have become favorites among collectors. A third album was recorded but was not released until 2011. The band enjoyed a successful career nationally and toured extensively across the United States. Venues included a wide array of college campuses, clubs, concert halls, the Whiskey A-Go-Go in Los Angeles and Madison Square Garden in New York City. They performed with The Doobie Brothers, The Kinks, Grand Funk Railroad, David Bowie, Blue Oyster Cult and many other huge stars of the day. Band members included Joe Ahladis on guitar, Pat Aulizia on drums, Bob Fiorino on vocals, Roger Force on saxophone & flute, Tony Gigliotti on vocals, Fred Marzulla on trombone, Dave Mazzochi on keyboards & vocals, Bob Miller on lead guitar, Bob Pinti on trumpet & vocals and Greg Yochman on bass. Their sound was often compared to Blood Sweat & a Tears, Grand Funk Railroad and most often, Chicago. The solid musicianship and talent displayed on these two albums rivals nearly anything Chicago has done. The strong brass and funky organ/keyboard riffs combined with a couple great bass solo lines, great drums, strong guitar and vocals made this a strong line up. They toured extensively until breaking up in the mid-70s. Im sorry they did not continue to record and tour, but from a selfish perspective, Im glad. I know many of these guys but two in particular are longtime friends. Had the band continued, I probably would not have had the opportunity to become friends with Bob Pinti and his wife, Kathy, or Dave Mazzochi and his wife, Lisa. Ive known Bob and Kathy for more than thirty years and the Mazzochis for over ten years. Thanks to all of Moms Apple Pie for the great music, the fun stories and the rock & roll music history.
