Sometimes you have to step up so that you dont fall back. This is - TopicsExpress

Sometimes you have to step up so that you dont fall back. This is priceless ... and easier said than done. I am so weary of hatred, and so much hatred is rationalized because people feel in the right or justified ... if were all working toward goodness and love and kindness, and AWAY from things that belittle and demean and cause others pain, then maybe what were so self-righteous about and committed to, ISNT the best course, no matter how strongly we feel about it. We each qualify what evil is in relation to how we view the world, but what WE see as evil may not truly be so, if its not harmful to ourselves or others. Recently Ive been trying to view my perspectives a bit differently, and before I take up a cause or make a decision about something that another has said or done, I TRY to determine first whether or not its harmful to myself or others, and if not, I attempt to discern just WHAT it is thats motivating me to consider taking action in that direction. Its truly amazing how much this little exercize has changed what I act upon and what I dont, and how I view the world and whats going on around me, (in relation to ANY relationship/interaction). One of the things Ive learned in doing this is that a persons cause is very often what motivates most of their actions, and what theyre most reluctant to let go of, even if it is harmful or insulting or offensive to others, because rationalizing that cause as righteous or justified, takes that cause OUT of the realm of hatred, from THEIR perspective. But hatred is hatred - angst is angst, and if that perspective IS harmful or offensive or mean-spirited, then all the rationalization and justification in the world will NOT take it out of that hateful realm, whether one sees it that way or not. Weve got to stop rationalizing things in ways that are contrary to the emotional, physical, or spiritual well-being of others, no matter how painful or contrary to our common sense or convictions that may be, and START qualifying what we do or say or take up as a cause, by what affect it will have on not ONLY ourselves, but the world around us and all that it contains. I have come to see very plainly that anything ELSE will ultimately lead to self-destruction, on a personal basis AND as a race or species, and that compromise, no matter how counter-productive it may seem to our beliefs or convictions, is ALWAYS better than ANYthing that is harmful or hateful. We MAY just survive our self-destructive tendencies as a race, AND learn that what we originally thought to be the right thing or the best cause or even the TRUTH, may not be so righteous afterall. Conviction is a very powerful thing, and its an emotion and force that we use to guide the more important views and decisions that we make, but its NOT always a GOOD thing. There has been more killing and evil done in the name of conviction and righteousness than there EVER would have been otherwise. Why? Because people didnt stop to ask this very simple question, (Is this harmful to myself or others?), BEFORE taking action or making effort for their causes and beliefs. THIS has become my primary view of the world of late, and I feel as strongly about it as Ive ever felt about ANYthing ... and as serious about speaking out on it. The biggest problem is that a persons convictions are most often the LAST thing theyre willing to give up, (or even QUESTION), and this little approach here requires it to most often be the FIRST. All just my very humble and personal opinion, of course.
