Spire AVL worked with the Central Association for the Miraculous Medal to create dynamic time of day display art lighting on the Shrine to Mary located within the main cathedral of the Miraculous Medal Shrine in Germantown, PA. The main goal was to improve the lighting on the Shrine to Mary and to emphasize the rich mosaic and marble work found throughout the Shrine. Spire utilized various LED fixtures and strategically programmed several colors of LED light into each scene which allowed the full range of color in the artwork to be accentuated. The use of layered lighting now creates contrast and enriches the Shrine which has been in place since the 1920s. The control system has been configured to operate based on time of day. This allows the Shrine to operate based on sunrise and sunset daily which ties the lighting on the Shrine to the outside lighting conditions. Visitors to the Shrine in the early morning can expect to see a sunrise while evening visitors can expect to see Mary in the moonlight.
