St. Anthony Spirituality Center (info@sarcenter) Add to contacts 1/24/14 To: Amy 2014 is off to a great start at St. Anthony Spirituality Center. View this email in your browser As we enjoy the snow drifting down outside our windows, we are thankful for the warmth of our staff and volunteers which is in such stark contrast to the bitterly cold temperatures of the last couple weeks. God has blessed us with so much. Every day someone old or new reaches out to us, and it gives us an opportunity to see another Christ in the world. In this email, weve provided excerpts of the last two Center Reflections from Fr. Frank Corradi, our spiritual leader, and Sallie Bachar, a spiritual director on our extended preaching staff. We also highlight some new needs on our wishlist and an update about joining committees. Start by doing whats necessary; then do whats possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible. - St. Francis Facebook Twitter Website Please consider joining us for an upcoming event here at St. Anthonys. Evening for Prayer & Healing Monday, February 10 from 7-8:30 p.m. Free Will Offering Any time we open ourselves to God in prayer, we also open ourselves to the possibility of healing. There will e time for prayer together, a presentation, quiet time, and a closing prayer service. There will also be a blessing of blankets, either for your own use at home or for you to give to someone you know needs Gods warm embrace. Facilitated by our extended preaching staff. No registration necessary, but please feel free to call us for more information or if you need a ride. Our January evening was well attended, and the new faces added a new level of grace and blessing to the prayers. Faith, Film & Fellowship Tuesday, February 18 from 9-11:30 a.m. OR 6-8:30 p.m. Free Will Offering Take a break from the humdrum wintertime monotony by joining us for movie and refreshments, followed by thoughtful discussions about how we can use the lessons from the movie to amplify the work of the Spirit in our daily lives and help us grow in faith. Pick either morning or evening session to attend. No registration is necessary to attend, but please call if you would like more information (like what movie well be watching) or if you need a ride. Those who attended our January event were pleased with the quality of the film (which was a documentary called I Am) and the depth of the discussion afterwards. From staff who attended, the lunch table the next day was abuzz with continued conversation about all the great questions the documentary stirred in their hearts. Evening for Lovers Thursday, February 13 from 6-9 p.m. | Meal at 6 p.m. Offering: $55 Loving Through Thick & Thing: Stories that Inspire Through their Retrouvaille connections, Mark & Irene Mehlos met a widow in Cleveland who gifted them with courage to keep loving through thick and thin. They cant wait to tell you the story! Come and share a special evening ... food to enrich your body, soul and your relationship! Price per couple. Please call to register, for more information, or if you need a ride to attend. Our new Communications Coordinator, Cheryl, wrote this in an email to someone asking for more information about this special evening: We are transforming our Conference Room into a beautiful dining room, complete with candlelit tables and lovely place settings so couples can enjoy a romantic and delicious dinner. Following the meal, the room will be adjusted slightly (and lights made brighter) to accommodate the talk that Mark & Irene will give where they will inspire us in our own marriages to persevere through difficult times and stay closely bonded together. There is time for discussion as a group or perhaps just at each table where you can share your own experiences or stories youve heard about couples who have lasted through even the most difficult of circumstances. We hope you will leave feeling like you can conquer the world as long as your spouse is at your side to face it with you! Volunteers: Are you interested in offering your gift of time and insights on one of these committees? •Programming Committee •Technology Committee •Building & Grounds Committee Those of you who have already expressed interest in joining these committees will be receiving a letter next week to let you know of our first gathering of committees next month. A group of Center staff, board members and extended preaching staff reps stayed overnight on a Visioning Retreat last weekend, and we wrote a new Vision Statement for St. Anthonys. Well share it with you when it is finalized and approved. In the meantime, we need to schedule those committees to meet soon so we can create our STRATEGIC PLANS, which will help us plan for the future and determine the goals for the Capital Campaign starting in the spring. Seasonal Interior Decorating: We are still looking for three people who would like to do some seasonal decoration, i.e. fall, Christmas, winter, Easter, spring, etc. If you have questions about these volunteer ministries, please email the Board at board@sarcenter or call the Centers front office at 715.443.2236. In our Center Reflections, a number of staff people and board members take turns writing a weekly reflection on something that has recently sparked in our prayer lives, be it in our spiritual studies, our devotionals, our community prayer, or just a random hit of grace by the Holy Spirit. They are published on Fridays. The last two are below in excerpt form. Click the Read More button to see the whole post on our site. This email we feature the reflections of Fr. Frank Corradi, our new spiritual leader, and Sallie Bachar, a spiritual director who has walked with St. Anthony Spirituality Center for a number of years. Fr. Frank is on staff here at the Center. He will coordinate our new Resident Franciscan Community that will start taking applications soon. He has already been such a blessing to us with inspiring homilies and frank (pun intended) discussions about our hopes and dreams for the Center. Sallie Bachars sweetness and deep spirituality seep through her writing. Her practical style of communication helps all of us know that we dont need degrees in theology to know Jesus. A New Resolution Fr. Frank Corradi, Spiritual Leader The great fad of the beginning of the year is to develop New Year’s Resolutions and to work on them very hard for at least 10 days. Then, they are abandoned and we return to our ‘old ways.’ The Church reminds us of the most important renewal that we need to make each year and I would say each morning. We must renew our baptismal commitment. Often we don’t every remember the date of our baptism let alone appreciate its importance in our faith life. But, the Church remembers by beginning Ordinary time after Christmas with the feast of the Baptism of the Lord. What is the renewal it calls us to in 2014? In the Gospel proclaimed for this feast we hear God the Father of Jesus: “This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased” and “This is my beloved Son, listen to him.” These declarations are directed to Jesus revealing his unique relationship with the Father. We as readers are listeners to these declarations. Read More Write Down Your Goals and Dreams Sallie Bachar, Spiritual Director We don’t hear much about New Year’s Resolutions any more, and I wonder why. We certainly need goals and visions to guide us and keep us on course. Without them we tend to flounder through our days often feeling that our lives lack purpose and meaning. January is the month of new beginnings, named after Janus, a god worshipped by the ancient Romans. Janus was the god of beginnings and transitions and is usually depicted as having two faces, one looking to the future and one looking to the past. So before this month ends, I invite you to look back onto 2013, if you haven’t done so already and spend some time reflecting on the year just past. Did you change during the year? What prompted that change? Have you grown? Have you become more tender-hearted, more patient, more loving, more Christ-like or have you succumbed to the ways of the world, the materialistic, ego-centered culture of our times? Read More If youd like to see what we have planned for the rest of the first half of the year, please peruse our Calendar on the website. Weve listed all sponsored retreats and offerings through June. Pray With Us... Did you know that we have a Prayer Request form on our website? Whenever we receive a request on the phone, in person or through our website, someone immediately goes to the Chapel and prays for that intention before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. We take them very seriously, and they are woven into our prayers throughout the day and remain in paper form next to the tabernacle 24/7 for at least three months. So please, if you have a special intention, let us know. We dont need your contact information or even to hear the background... simply tell us what is burdening your heart, and we will pray! Upcoming Events... Please join us in prayer that all couples who need strengthening and encouragement will find their way to our Evening for Lovers. Please God, let the Evening for Lovers be a holy time of grace and loving relationships. May all those who attend leave feeling nourished both body and soul. Amen.
