State of Apology The flurry of Personal State Visitation Maps - TopicsExpress

State of Apology The flurry of Personal State Visitation Maps lately on this quirky medium bemuses This Contributor, just as it stirs the suspicion that Statehood is a subject for lively discussion. The cheap shot at Oklahoma in yesterdays post was, by no means, meant as a personal slam against the wonderful Boo of Kevin McGranaghan. Its just that the state DOES often lend itself to stereotype. Conversely, Oklahoma! remains one of the most exuberant songs—and a title one, no less—ever penned for the Broadway stage. There are advantages—with the possible exception of Marcus Bachmann—and disadvantages to nearly everything. Truth be told, almost no state is safe, nor above casual lampoon. In my many years rattling around the Lower 48, Ive heard jokes/digs at West Virginia (featuring a bear and a young lady), North Dakota (a truly offensive dig at the weather and a specific ethnicity), and even my adopted state of Nevada, wherein no mercy is spared on a well-endowed third-grader. Truly tasteless punchlines provided upon request via private message/communication hereon, but remember you HAVE been warned. Texas remains way too easy a target, and we continue to love California despite her faults, but we Nebraskans have no reason to be smug. Our cheery new governor—among the best, mind you, that money can buy—is well on his way to being a national laughing stock in his arcane, bigoted defense of traditional marriage, a stance that, if not so pathetic, would be hysterical. So, Ill close with a nod to Georgia, which gave us pop songbird Brenda Lee, who sang arguably the best a-pol-o-GEE song ever written, and beg advance forgiveness for another parting shot at that long-suffering Sooner State. Years ago, I attended a concert wherein a member of the Kingston Trio noted that TULSA backwards is A SLUT. A recent acquaintance just this year took that fact a sniggering step further when he asked: And you know what A SLUT is backwards? (Wait for it...) Fifty Bucks extra. Now lets see...where on the map WAS I...?
