Stolen Vehicle Involved in Hit and Run Injury Traffic Collision MERCED, CA - On Saturday November 22, 2014 at 6:55 AM Merced Police Officers responded to a solo vehicle accident in the 1500 MLK Jr Way. Officers arrived on scene and located a vehicle facing the wrong direction, on the sidewalk next to the Wendy’s restaurant. The initial investigation indicates the driver lost control of the vehicle near the intersection of MLK Jr Way and West 15th Street and traveled southbound MLK Jr Way in the northbound lanes. The vehicle hit a street light and fire hydrant, causing the water line to break and resulted in flooding in the 1500 block of MLK Jr Way. A witness reported two male occupants fled from the vehicle and ran eastbound. Officer Jeff Gonzales assisted with the investigation and found two subjects matching the description of the occupants. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Alejandro Rodriguez (Age 19). Evidence located indicated Rodriguez was the driver of the vehicle. The registered owner of the vehicle was located and reported the vehicle stolen. Rodriguez was arrested for felony hit and run, auto theft, possession of a controlled substance, driving with a suspended license and 4 outstanding warrants. The passenger (Male, Age 18) had minor lacerations as a result from the traffic collision and would seek his own medical treatment. City of Merced City Public Works and the Merced Fire Department arrived to assist with the flooding.
