Strike against Zubin Mehta’s concert cripples life in Kashmir Srinagar: Life was today crippled due to general strike, called by separatists against Zubin Mehta’s ‘Concert for Kashmir’, organised this evening at Shalimar on the bank of world famous Dal Lake by Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany. Shops and business establishments remained closed and traffic was also off the roads in the summer capital, Srinagar, and its adjoining areas, where ‘ Nakas’ have been established by security forces. However, medical shops and those selling vegetables and fruits were seen open in the uptown and parts of civil lines. Business and other activities were crippled in this and other south Kashmir districts and tehsil headquarters, a report from Anantnag said. Transport was off the roads. However, some private vehicles, besides two wheelers could be seen plying in the town and outskirts of Anantnag. Work in government offices, banks and other financial institutions was affected. Schools and colleges wore a deserted look as students stayed away in response to strike call. Teaching and other staff of majority educational institutional also could not make it to their institutions because of lack of transport facilities.
