Striking a defender is a skill. The bulk of OLmen generally punch - TopicsExpress

Striking a defender is a skill. The bulk of OLmen generally punch from the shoulders and not the lats. This is also common when OL execute a bench press, over emphasis on the pecs and deltoid versus engaging the triceps and lats. This video gives you a visual to the anatomical function of an incorrect and correct striking motion. - the first two movements illustrate a shoulder punch. Pay close attention to the knuckles, they rotate IN. When the knuckles rotate IN, the elbows flare OUT and the shoulder internally rotates. This action unscrews the shoulder and disengages the lats/ tris. Your striking power has now been dramatically diminished, the shoulder exposed to injury and youve now lost control of your hips (yes, your hips). The 3rd & 4th illustrate the proper rotation of the knuckles, they rotate OUT. This rotation now engages the lats and externally rotates shoulders. The shoulder is now screwed in and more power/stability is created. #PunchHisFaceOff #Baptism #Oline #OlinePerformance
