Subrata Roy seeks urgent medical help, SC to hear plea today Sahara Groups jailed corporate group head Subrata Roy on Tuesday moved the Supreme Court seeking urgent medical help to arrest his deteriorating health condition. It was mentioned twice before a bench, headed by Justice T S Thakur, by senior advocate Sidharth Luthra seeking urgent directions to authorities in Tihar Jail, where Roy has been lodged since March 24 for not complying with the courts August 31, 2012 directions to return to three crore investors an amount of Rs 24,000 crore with interest through market regulator SEBI. During raids on Monday, the income tax department had seized Rs 137 crore in cash from Sahara offices in Delhi and Noida. The court had earlier granted Roy bail on the condition that he deposits Rs 10,000 crore as part payment of the total amount due from two Sahara firms - Sahara Housing and Sahara Real Estate - which were found to have illegally raised the money from three crore small investors through one-time fully convertible debentures (OFCDs). When Luthra requested urgent hearing, the bench told him that it would hear the application on Wednesday and pass appropriate directions to the Tihar jail authorities provided the plea was filed in the registry in proper form. Since more than six months have passed since Roy and two other directors were detained in Tihar jail for non-compliance of the apex court orders, the Sahara group is planning to file fresh application seeking Roys release on medical grounds.
