Sunnah as a Practical Manifestation of the Qur’an: An Analytical Study of Said Nursi’s Concept of Sunnah Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ismail Abdullah, International Islamic University, MALAYSIA Nursi in al-Kalimat elaborates at length on the notion of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as the translator of the universe. Nursi explains that Allah wishes to make Himself known and loved by conscious creatures (dhawi al-shu’ur). Therefore, the task of men is to be the observers, they need to contemplate and study the wonderful, strange miracles of power displayed in the exhibition of the universe. Men only could understand His divinity (rububiyyatihi) as the result of their observation and contemplation of the universe by means of herald (muballigh). The herald will teach men what Allah desires of them and what those things are that please Him, and concern them. He appoints the Prophet in order to inform other conscious beings of those exalted aims and to display His perfections.
