THE BUSINESS NEWS UPDATE AT 4PM BROUGHT TO YOU BY Orange Uganda A new International Tours and Travel company has joined the market to set the bar high for other local based tours and travel companies. Bikwasi Tours and Travel International Limited that has been operating in the United Kingdom and South Africa will officially start operating in Uganda come September this year. Bikwasi Haruna, the Director of Bikwasi Tours and Travel Inernational Ltd says they are happy to be joining the Uganda Tourism sector that is improving at a faster rate and says they have quality services that are pocket friendly and assures that tourists will get the value for their money. Bikwasi Tours and Travel International Limited will have their main offices in Uganda at Cairo Bank Building on Kampala Road. A UK Uganda Convention is to take place to help create a platform for the Ugandans in the Diaspora, the government, various kingdoms and the private sector to open doors and opportunities among others. Willy Mutenza, the event’s chairman says The Ugandan Convention is to harness the tremendous skills and expertise, as well as the financial, socio-political and cultural capital of the Ugandan Diaspora with a view to promote economic and infrastructural development back in Uganda. The fourth Ugandan Convention will take place on the 13th Sept 2014 at the Troxy Arena, in London, and the theme will be ‘UGANDA IS OPEN FOR BUSINESS”, conveying the clear message that Uganda welcomes new business ventures and investors. President Yoweri Museveni has asked the people in Busoga region to practice commercial agriculture so as to realize financial stability in the area. This as he addressed a delegation of NRM Women’s League from Busoga sub-region who called on him at his country home in Rwakitura, Kiruhura district. The team was led by the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga and included MPs from Busoga, leaders and mobilizers. He went on to advise the women to adopt the seven-acre method of agriculture in order to ensure better and higher profits from their varied activities even for those who have small pieces of land. The NRM leader cited projects such as piggery, poultry, dairy cows, pasture/fodder, fruits, colonal coffee and food crops like matooke (bananas) and cassava that can be grown together on the same piece of land. Rwanda Air starts Entebbe-Juba flights today, 4 August following the recently granted 5th freedom traffic rights from Uganda to South Sudan by the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). The development comes barely a month after CAA suspended the operations of Air Uganda because the airline could not meet the internationally recognised aviation standards. On June 17, 2014, CAA withdrew Air Operator Certificates (AOC) for three airlines that were registered in Uganda and operating international flights and subsequently granted rights to other airlines like RwandAir and Ethiopian Airlines which are planning to establish flights on the routes that were previously covered by Air Uganda. Ghana has said it will seek financial aid from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to help strengthen the West African nations currency. The cedi has fallen 40% against the US dollar this year, making it one of the worlds worst-performing currencies. Ghana, once seen as a shining example of economic strength in the region, is also struggling with high inflation. The country last went to the IMF for help in 2009, when it secured a $600bn (£360bn), three-year aid package. Despite being a major exporter of gold, oil and cocoa, Ghana is struggling with large current account and budget deficits. Africans see jobs, education and security as their biggest areas of concern, according to a poll today conducted by ONE, the anti-poverty campaign co-founded by rockers Bono and Bob Geldof. The poll comes on the eve of an Aug. 4-6 African summit of nearly 50 African leaders hosted by U.S. President Barack Obama in Washington where deals worth billions of dollars are expected to be announced. The poll offers a snapshot of priorities for Africans and their attitudes towards the United States from nine countries as small as Benin and Rwanda to larger and more populous nations including Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, Tanzania, and Tunisia. The poll was conducted over a five-day period at the end of July surveying 500 people in each country, with the average age of respondent about 26. The margin of error is plus or minus 5.
