THE CENTRAL THEME OF THE MISSING MALAYSIAN AIR JUMBO , UNCERTAINTY! For students, professors and individuals like me who are keen on the scientific subject of UNCERTAINTY, the missing Malaysian jumbo jet with passengers and crew is a classical illustration of the mathematical subject of uncertainty. Of course, uncertainty affects all physical laws within the sphere of science, and that includes, the psyche of human nature, psychologically and physiologically. I have only one general rule when it comes to uncertainty affecting events in human affairs or anything in this finite world, and that is, PROBABILITY IS THE ONLY SENSIBLE DESCRIPTION OF UNCERTAINTY AND IS AN ADEQUATE SOLUTION FOR ALL UNCERTAINTIES. Remember my post on the principle of Probability last week? Probability is nothing but common sense reduced to the mathematical aspect of Calculus. It enables us to appreciate with exactness that accurate minds feel with instinct for often we are unable to account. A Rochester Institute of Technology social psychologist put it exactly that with all the guesses sometimes out-of- this- world theories on the cause of the missing jet jumbo, uncertainty in this world is the prevailing theme. However, going back to the principle of probability, if one were to use all the complicated mathematical analysis, what are the probabilities which we are comfortable with? They are all probabilities governed by common sense and if couched with calculating analysis and computations namely, accident (internal or external) and conscious diversion of the flight route (hijacking, ransom demand, political cause). And science gave us some helpful hints like the radar tracking of unidentified planes, and the satellite pings which records the jet engine signals. If further investigated, the conscious diversion of the plane path is probably the cause of the mysterious disappearance, with less factor on accident as there are no external evidence in the sea and on land to ascertain that a crash occurred. When it comes to the mathematical field of probability students of mathematics remember these founding names Rene Descartes, Pierre Fermat, and Werner Heinsberg and his uncertainty principle which states that the position and velocity of an object can not be measured simultaneously. Lastly for the the guesses, conjectures and theories, I always remember the wise words of SIR ARTHUR CONAN DOYLE, the British author of the book series SHERLOCK HOLMES. He said: when all causes for impossibility are removed, the remaining possibilities are true. Therefore, is a UFO intervention possible or impossible? Is an under the sea Bermuda Triangle in the South China sea possible or impossible? Is the evil spirits accompanying the plane on flight possible or impossible? Is the crossover to eternity possible or impossible? You be the judge to the Doyle dictum.
