THE CITY OF GUANELLA Community Agricultural Educational Project for street children of the city of Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo The City of Guanella came into existence since June 2002. It is situated about 120 Km from the capital city of Kinshasa, on the route axis towards Kikwit, in the Village of Mpongwene, of Dumi section (after the River Mai Ndombe). The City of Guanella is composed of: A Religious Community in charge of the city An Educational Centre for young people (formerly in the street). An Educational Centre for mentally retarded young boys. A clinic for health care. A Primary School (with 208 pupils for the academic year 2012-2013). A vast land (100 hectares) for divers plantations (vegetables, orchard, garden, acacia). animal rearing (Cattle, piggery, fish, bee). Collaboration for the pastoral ministry of the Christian communities, thanks to the engagements of the priests of the Community. Educational Objectives : To promote the human dignity of young people coming from an experience of social marginalization, thanks to a psychosocial accompaniment , aiming at permitting the young people to reappropriate their basic human values: creating for them the awareness of their proper value and the potentials of their positive human resources to be well utilized; acceptance et respect for the others, learning to collaborate with others: love for work. Helping them to acquire technical competence in the agricultural sector and divers animal rearing. The presence of a little bakery which also permits to learn the art of baking bread. The flower culture is also one of the technical possibility to be learned. Thanks to a variety agricultural production and to a relative commerce of products, constitutes an economic fund serving in a way for the reinstatement of the young people to their families, and in another, to the self financing of the educational community.
