THE GREAT MIGRATION ENCOUNTER This photo depicts what is probably one of the most underrated of great migrations to occur in the Natural world. For various reasons, certain species of stingrays (most notably the cow-nosed ray) gather in large schools called "fevers" to travel in procession to warmer waters, or places where food is more abundant. The phenomenon was perhaps most famously documented in 2007 by Sandra Critelli, an amateur photographer who happened to chance upon the wondrous sight while searching for whale sharks off the coast of Mexico.
