THE INTERMITTENT WORD ... 24 Dec, 2014 Some things are worth waiting for. My wife and I waited ten years for a son. We waded through a long decade of inexplicable infertility. There were tearful Mothers Days, slightly sad baby showers, and sorrowful evenings spent wondering why. It went on for a long time, and there was no clear explanation. The doctors said there was nothing wrong, but our hearts said otherwise. Then he came. We had three weeks notice, and our son Isaiah arrived in a flurry of adoption paperwork, legal last-minutes, and an afternoon in St. Peters hospital where we heard his first cry, gave him his first bath, and welcomed him into our lives. What a joy! The wait was worth it. Thats the same way Simeon felt at Christmas. He had been waiting his whole life for God to keep his promise. It was a long wait. He was an old man. But when the promise came true, he was the first to say it was worth waiting for. As he held the baby Jesus in his arms, he said, Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you now dismiss your servant in peace. (Luke 2:29) Notice the last two words in peace. You see, my friend, peace comes to those who wait for God. It always has, and it always will. So let me ask - are you waiting? Are you listening? Do you believe? Youre welcome to sit down here beside me in the manger, and well wait together. Its worth it. Youll see. And Ill see you on Sunday. Be true!
