THE JOURNEY..... PART 2 Like magic, the food disappeared. The water followed. They had not envisioned such a long journey and already tiredness was setting in. Janet began to whine. “If I had known, I would have stayed back at the children’s home. At least I will get three meals everyday.” Janet stated, angrily. They kept moving even though they faced the wrath of the sun in the day and the biting impact of the cold at night. One hot afternoon, a man walked towards them. They had been so lost in thought that they didn’t observe where he had come out from. But they were happy to see another human. “Hello dear,” the voice sounded so soft but firm. “Where are you heading to at this time of the day?” Janet was the first to speak. “ Our father is expecting us in a land called Exquisite but right now we are famished and thirsty. We ran out of food and water yesterday.” “I can see that you are all tired. There’s a stream some few miles behind you. If you don’t mind, I can take you there. The girls look at themselves confused. The large words written boldly on the paper attached to the map rang in their ears. DO NOT TURN BACK. It was so clear. The man waited patiently searching through their eyes. “Now listen to me, you will not get water to drink except you turn back. The land here is dry and barren. Just then, Janet noticed the big dead antelope he was holding. Her eyes grew wide. This will make a good meal, she thought. The man followed her eyes. “I am going to roast it in my village just beside the stream. If you come with me, I could give some for your journey” he said, lifting up the animal for the sisters to get a better view. Janet turned to her sisters but they shook their head. They thanked the man for the offer and set to continue their journey but Janet would not move. “I’m going with him” Janet declared “You can’t do that. That’s not the instruction Janet. Please let’s go” Kate pleaded. “Just give me five minutes. I’ll be back. In fact I’ll come back with large chunks of meat.” She chuckled and disappeared with the man. The girls waited for Janet to return. Two hours. Four hours. Six hours. The sun had gone down and they were engulfed in the thick darkness. While they were thinking of what next to do, the sky suddenly clouded over and a lightening rang out so loud that the children shivered. The downpour followed. They got up quickly and began to look for shelter. They paused when they saw a small hut with light coming from an electric bulb outside. Electricity? They were too stunned to talk and walked quietly towards the hut. The exterior of the hut was nothing close to what they saw inside. It was beautifully furnished. The dinning area had a table and four chairs. On the table was a large bowl with steaming chicken soup and another bowl was filled with rice garnished with all sorts of spices. Like hungry Lions, they pounced on the food. Clara needed to use the rest room. She lazily walked through the only door that stood behind a flowery pink cotton and she stood stunned as she beheld the most beautiful room she had ever seen. The walls were painted blue matching the fluffy rug that lay on the ground. There was a large bed, big enough to accommodate six persons. The bed had a plain beautiful pink bedspread. On the bed were two blankets neatly folded. In front of the bed was a table with a mirror. Clara stood in front of the mirror, smiling. She quickly ran back to the living room.
