THE LAMU ATTACKS ARE THE WORK OF AL-SHAKEN... There are attempts by CORD and its supporters to use yesterdays Standard on Sunday (which is well known, along with its sister stations KTN and Radio Maisha, to be Railas sympathisers) report that the Al Shabaab commander who led the fighters that carried out deadly attacks in Lamu County was Idris Kamau, a Kenyan of Kikuyu ethnicity, to dispel the NIS intelligence report that the attacks were ethnically and politically instigated. For heavens sake, nothing can be further from the truth. These attacks were planned and executed by the Lamu elites and politicians. Yes, Kamau is a Kikuyu I agree. But he is an Al- Shabaab. He is a criminal and no criminal carries an ethnic tag when executing crime. Going by their mediocre arguement, does it mean the Kenya Defence Forces are Al Shabaab since a former KDF soldier, Abu Jamal, is said to be in charge of a cell of the Al Shabaab fighters in Mombasa that is planning the attacks in the region? Does it mean that all Kikuyus are mungiki? All Somalis/muslims are Al Shabaab? All mijikendas are MRC? All Sabaots are SLDF? All Kisiis are Sungusungu? All Luhyas are Angola-Msumbiji? And Luo are ...... ? That is being simplistic. These attacks have been carried out by AlShaKen_ terrorists drawn from Al Shabaab and MRC. It is a known fact that so many poor Kenyan youths drawn from different tribes trained in Al Shabaab camps in Somalia before returning to Kenya to set up cells that operate in the country and more so, at the coastal region. Politicians and local land grabbers have now being using them for their own selfish reasons. They are still recruiting more Muslim youths in Mombasa slums to undergo training for their jihadist causes at an unestablished location in or near the port city. This is a well-planned, well-financed mission. The financiers of the attacks are wealthy Lamu ranch owners and leading Lamu politicians. How do you explain how these attacked have managed to do business as usual or nearly one month now? The have melting into the forest to evade capture by the police, much to the chagrin of security officials. How is it possible that they can move so quickly and without being noticed? How is it possible that police have not killed any of them despite police shooting at them? Reason.... They know the geography of the area just too well. Some of the local police have been compromised and are leaking crucial security information to these attackers. The attackers have been mostly strucking whenever conditions limited the movement of police, evidence of some prior information. Delays by the police to act on tip-offs given by the public has kept helping them escape capture. In most instances when members of the public arrested suspiscious people carrying masks, gloves, binding cords and a map of Mpeketoni area with certain areas marked “X”, the compromised police have been setting them free without satisfactory explanations. The police have been a bit reckless to be releasing strange people travelling in large numbers without proper investigations. All these and more indicators point to only one direction; a local involvement to the Lamu attacks. Period!
