The Buhari regime rebuffed all entreaties by IMF and World Bank to devalue the naira, remove subsidies on services and increase pump price on fuel. As a result, the naira was stronger than the dollar by about 15%. #1 was equivalent to $1.3. The pump price of fuel was never increased as he was the only head of state that never changed the pump price of fuel. FACT: Buhari achieved so much because he was capable of running a transparent government. It was feasible for General Muhammadu Buhari to procure 30 brand new Air Buses for Nigeria Airways in 1985 to further develop aviation industry because corruption was extremely mitigated. He could upgrade the refineries in Nigeria without borrowing a kobo because he presided over a shrewd government. The most impactful achievement that during General Muhammadu Buhari’s regime was the laying of over 3, 200 kilometers of pipeline across the country. Interestingly, subsequent administrations, including the current one have failed at securing or maintaining them. Horrendously, not a single meter has been added till date. It is rather amusing to portray General Muhammadu Buhari as out of touch when Nigeria continues to rely on the pipelines his government constructed about 30 years ago.
