THE RIGHTEOUSNESS PATH What does scripture say? Abraham - TopicsExpress

THE RIGHTEOUSNESS PATH What does scripture say? Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness (Rom. 4:3). Our scripture (Romans 4:1-17). Think of righteousness as a journey, not just a condition. It was for Abraham, a faith giant and the father of Israel. He was comfortably settled in Haran when God called him to Go...to the land that I will show you (Genesis 12:1). No specific direction, just go--with a promise (Genesis 12:2-3). Abraham went. That was only the beginning of his faith walk. Progress markers include tithing his possessions (Genesis 14), the miraculous birth of Isaac (Genesis 21), and his willingness to sacrifice his son (Genesis 22). God credited his great faith as righteousness (Genesis 15:6; Romans 4:3). Abraham followed the righteousness path. The path of righteousness is like the morning sun, shining even brighter till the full light of day (Proverbs 4:18). God doesn`t save us simply to get us to heaven. He calls us to a righteous journey through life. That is the only path of real fulfillment and spiritual growth. We often speak of growth in grace. We also need growth in righteousness. Only God can create the inner condition. Still we contribute to our growth by our actions. Righteousness reveals itself in holy living. That`s following the righteousness path. Dear Jesus may we always follow the righteousness path, may our lives reflect the love and guidance of God. (Paraphrased, Wil Watson, RE--FLECTING GOD 7/12/14). Righteous living comes from holiness within, but holiness within does not come from righteous living.
