THE STORY OF PROJECT WALK HOUSTON! The tragic news came 3 years ago, January 17, 2012. The phone call no parent wants to receive. Your son is being transported to the hospital with a possible broken neck. In that instance life changed for the Dremely family. Brooks then a lively 17 year old headed to the best career high in racing motorcross ended. A lifelong dream for Brooks was to enter into the semi-pro ranks of racing. Two days later C1 and C2 were fused and he was placed on a ventilator. The next 6 months included extended hospital stays, recovery at TIRR, with multiple trips back to Memorial Hermann. The news was increasing devastating. The changes that would need to take place for the family was even more disappointing and the financial costs that will continue throughout life. Once Brooks was medically stable, the determination he used in racing he transformed to regaining use and strength of his body. This will be a lifelong challenge. But the love for motorcross will never be lost, a passion deep within Brooks’ heart. vimeo/76962971 Brooks’ determination lead the Dremely family to seek out all possible recovery methods for those who suffer with paralysis. At the top of their list was Project Walk® Paralysis Recovery Centers, unfortunately they were located in California. So off the Dremely family went to learn and experience Project Walk. “We were so impressed with the excitement, hope and knowledge presented at Project Walk. What else could be do but bring Project Walk to the Houston area where there was nothing like the experience we had just had!” Project Walk® Paralysis Recovery Centers, the world leader in paralysis recovery, provides an improved quality of life for people with disabilities through intense activity-based recovery programs, education, training, research and development.
