THIS DAY IN CLEVELAND/OHIO STATE SPORTS HISTORY: June 28, 1946 -- The Tribe defeats the Chicago White Sox 7-2 at Comiskey Park in Chicago, marking the beginning of permanent radio play-by-play broadcasts of Indians games. With the score tied 2-2, the Tribe blows the game open by scoring five runs in the top of the fifth inning. First baseman Les Fleming has three RBI for the Indians, while winning pitcher Steve Gromek helps his own cause by going 2-for-4 at the plate.
