THIS IS ADDRESSED TO OUR FELLOW FILIPINOS - LUMADS, MUSLIMS AND CHRISTIANS - IN MINDANAO. When the Bangsamoro peace agreement was being worked out, there were sustained, though somewhat muted, criticisms about the way the process of consultations were being done and worries that the constitution and other laws were being ignored for the sake of peace. Today, after the Agreement was submitted by the negotiating parties and under review by the Executive and Legislative branches, those criticisms turned out to be real issues presently confounding the reviewers. The Agreement from what I note is a product of incompleted staff work. Because of it, there are rumblings again from the South about war if the Agreement is not passed as is. This is not the way to talk if all sides want a true peace, one that will withstand the tests of time. Ive said it before and Ill say it again. The last thing Mindanaoans need is a third party to broker a peace that they truly want and need. Just do it, and stay united against anyone that tries to divide you. But Mindanaoans, or Mindanawons, should first ask themselves if they really desire a just and lasting peace for everyone living there. if you do then you dont need a third party. If some of you are half-hearted and others have hidden agendas, no amount of third party interventions will make it happen. Its either you really want it or not. Sit down around the table, face each other and dont stand until you thresh things out completely. And leave your biases, revenge culture and hatred outside the door. Think brotherhood and a common future worth living for. Live or Die. Thats what the choice boils down to. Its all up to you. Ball is on your court. It has always been.
