THIS IS WHERE IT ALL STARTED. All The Beatles really wanted was to make a record. A Polydor Records scout was in Hamburg looking for a new sound. Conquering Hamburg as their #1 was Englishman Tony Sheridan who subsequently taught the Beatles everything he know; from ins & outs of playing live to guitar style for George. Tony had a gimmick, too: Older folk songs played to a new rock twist. Polydor approached Sheridan, but his band went back to their day jobs in London. Tony approached The Beatles, who were then 2nd to Tony in popularity, & offered to pay them out of pocket the the 2 x 4 hour 8 (technically 9) recorded songs. Tony also generously offered them 2 out of the 8 competed songs for Polydors music files w/out him or his name on those. The band was to be called Tony Sheridan & The Beatles, but German annunciation of Beatles is penis. Thus, at Polydors request, their name be hanged to Tony Sheridan & the Beat Brothers. The 2 out of 8 songs chosen for the 45 rpm single was My Bonnie b/w The Saints (rock versions). It was released in Germany October 1961. I did fair. Plolydor thought the single would have more World-wide appeal if the German-sung intro was changed to another take which has an English intro. My Bonnie (Twist Version) was then re-released in February 1962. It did a little better, mostly because of The Beatles promoting it in Liverpool & Brian Epstein stocking it at his NEMMS Record Store.. . .And the rest is history! https://youtube/watch?v=qh9YJO5k4GY
