THOUGHT OF THE DAY If you wish to be perfect, say the Lord, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me. Todays Gospel is both complicated and simple. What is certain is that it does NOT literally tell Christians to sell their belongings (because God has a special reason for giving you what you have right now) nor is it an indictment about money being a hindrance to perfection. In order to be perfect, one has to be like Christ. Our Lord was God, and yet he did not use his omnipotence to tell people, Hey you! I am the Anointed One and Nobody else! Bown down and pray to me! Give me a second term! Oops... sorry, that last line was from a different Diyos-diyosan. One should not aspire for material wealth for ones personal advancement. Instead, the wealth one acquires BY GODS GRACE should be used to bring people closer to God, to make people more aware and to care for their environment and Gods creatures. Ones talents should be used to praise Gods glory, and not to become famous. Ones life should be devoted to the pursuit of perfection, that is, to do all such acts and think such thoughts that would make oneself worthy of the riches of heaven. BE LIKE CHRIST BEGINNING TODAY.
