TL;DR: raising the minimum wage because people want to make more money doesnt fix anything and actually adds more problems than it fixes *DISCLAIMER* I have only had one job, but listening to those who have been in the working world longer than i have, and doing my own research, has lead me to say what i have below, under no circumstances can i be 100% right, but im basing this of patterns in history. I saw this, and no im not trying to insult everyone, but regardless of the wage currently, raising would BARELY help. And heres why: ---The obvious is the Tax Rate in America. It takes more money because its a fixed percent and the more you make the more it takes (But in America, tax here is very low compared to places with free healthcare like the UK and Canada, their tax rates are upwards of 30%. That is why we have bad roads and whatever else tax pays for because as a country we dont pay enough.) ---Second. Well where you make more money, you cant expect things to stay the current price, that would be saying the value of the dollar is more when you make more of it. Unfortunately thats not how it works, places like Walmart have to raise their prices on goods because theyd have to make up for paying their employees more (I understand that walmart doesnt need that kind of money but it would happen anyway, same for all businesses.) ---When you take these into account, raising the minimum wage doesnt help that much, it just looks good on paper making like $10 an hour working as a crew member in Fast Food. I only make $8.05 and for real i was excited to be making more than Ohios minimum wage (7.95) but i still cant afford to live. You have to make a shit load of money in the current economy to be stable and not have to worry about making ends meet. Working 40 hours a week, every week at my current job, would be about $300 (since that 10c raise i evidently started with), and i get paid bi-weekly, so $600 every payday after reductions is bad. Id need to be bringing in twice that every 2 weeks to be in a some what decent position. (of course this is estimated and i dont ACTUALLY know because, well, i dont have too many bills to work out the math.) So, in summary, Raising minimum wage means you get taxed more (which im cool with), and prices of EVERYTHING will increase. So is the economy and the laws of making profit.
