TO MY BOY, AS YOU BEGIN YOUR COLLEGE ADVENTURE... Dearest - TopicsExpress

TO MY BOY, AS YOU BEGIN YOUR COLLEGE ADVENTURE... Dearest Elijah, tomorrow your great college adventure begins! My dear, brilliant, beautiful son... Where do I begin? On May 4th, 18 years ago, in the wee hours of the morning, the great adventure of my lifetime began. You were born! My beautiful baby boy. I could write a book about these last 18 years... about the profound joy you have brought into my life...listening to your amazing ideas, laughing with you until tears come down my face, watching in wonder as you touch other lives with your kindness, compassion, insight, and wisdom. You have been one of my greatest teachers in all that really matters in this lifetime. You have shown me how to rise above the dull and soul numbing din of the worlds judgements, fears, labels, and self imposed restrictions; and to again and again return to that place in the heart filled with bright faith, infinite possibilities, true creativity, and LOVE! I have loved every moment of being your mom and watching you grow into the extraordinary young man that you are today. Tomorrow we help you move away from home to begin your new life in college. As your mama, I want to wrap my arms around you, hold you close, find a way to protect you, soothe you, empower you, and love you with a love too big for any words to ever fully express. If I could, I would rewind the clock and do it all again; but then I might miss the miracle of all that still lies ahead. As we pack your things in anticipation and excitement, there are a few things I want to be sure are safely secured and tucked away to travel with you wherever you go. * REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE Remember, Elijah, that you are a beloved child of God- one who sees the world through eyes of hope, new vision, and love. The light you bring to others cannot be extinguished, and while all may not choose to join you in bringing more light and love into the world... the light you continue to shine in love will surely brighten the world that you move through. Jesus said the greatest commandments are to love God, love others, and love yourself. Love always wins. * HAVE FUN We are all making this up as we go, so you might as well decide to make it fun. Laugh, play, create, imagine, dream, rest, renew, and take time to see how blue the sky can be and how many colors there are in a single sunset. * GIVE WITH GENEROSITY Give help, support, your ideas, your smile, your time, a listening ear, an open heart... and remember to include yourself among all those you give to. * HAVE FAITH Have faith that when the storms come and your vision blurs, it is a temporary passage way into a new and better way of seeing. Breakdown always comes before breakthrough, and the lessons that are the toughest are often the pathway to our true purpose and ultimate liberation. Have faith that there is a much bigger picture than what you see in any given moment and that you are and always have been deeply loved by your family, your friends, and most of all, by a loving God. You walk with angels and live with grace. Have faith that all things will indeed work together for good if you stand in love, seek that which is true, noble, beautiful, excellent; and remember the Source of your very being. * BE BRAVE Take risks, ask questions, let your voice be heard, play full out, and keep moving boldly toward your dearest dreams. * MAKE MISTAKES! Make mistakes... lots of them... because it means youre trying something new. Your uncle Ron says that mistakes are the pathway to success if we use them as lessons to show us the way to mastery. Create your own Book of Mastery. With each mistake, write what happened without judgement or negativity... just the facts. Record the cause or conditions present that allowed it to happen. Define what didnt work, and if it were changed or done differently, what might work in the future. Celebrate your mistakes as lessons added to your Book of Mastery. College is about learning. Not just about learning new facts and information... but learning about life and becoming the person youve dreamed you would someday be. The most successful people in the world all point to their mistakes as their training ground in becoming who they are today. * LOVE AND BE LOVED Love this time in your life. Love life. Love everyone. Love yourself, and open to being loved by God, by others, by life itself. In the end there is faith, hope, and love... and the greatest of these is love. So my sweet boy, we have packed, and talked, and imagined what this day would be like for a long time, and now the time has come to begin this new adventure in life. We are all so very proud of who you are and grateful to be your family. We know all you have gone through to get to where you are today and your strength, vision, purpose, and determination leaves us speechless. I cant wait to see the miracles, the wonder, and the discoveries that lie ahead for you. You are ready my love... you are able... we believe in you and we have your back every step of the way. And yes, home is always here with a light in the window for you and our arms open wide. You arent closing the book, you are just beginning a beautiful new chapter. I love you always and forever! Mom
