TO THE NIECE AND NEPHEW OF THE GOVT The moment your uncle or aunt takes up a constitutional post, he as well opens a jar of criticism. So, learn to deal with it. For example, when I write about a particular government official, I don’t talk about how horrible his dental formula is or how stinking his breathe is. I don’t write about his baldhead. I don’t write about the one and only pair of suits he or she wears to state functions. I don’t write about their long dirty fingernails. No, it’s a private affair. Some of them are experiencing matrimonial nightmares – their marriages are up in smoke. Thanks to some slutty single women. And we don’t mention such. Writers are fully aware that some leaders are suffering from deadly diseases but we don’t touch that area. Some of them are living with HIV, meningitis and so on but we respect that. However, we write about their misdoings. we write about the bad things they do such as embezzlement, nepotism, tribalism and generally political weak-kneedness. When I write about Dr Riek, ‘ke’ his supporters ‘ang’eeny kelec aguou’. When I write about Salva Kiir, ‘ke’ his supporters ‘ajem xen ce thoh ce rap cam’. Lol. Now, these two principals – Riek and Kiir - caused the violence and are being misled by their swollen egos. They don’t want to stop the conflict. None wants to compromise. Riek demands heaven. Salva demands the same. They’re prolonging suffering of the civilians. That couples with failure to provide social services to the people between 2005 and 2013. Their juniors are also unhelpful. Instead of helping the two chiefs end the conflict, they’re busy fuelling the fire in order to gain from the spoils. Some are running away with employees’ pay, others are chilling in foreign beaches with their families. Others idle. They don’t do anything that is of help to the nation and its citizens. They include diplomats, ministers, members of parliament, security chiefs, heads of independent commissions and many other constitutional post holders. So, if you have an uncle or aunt in the government and you truly love him or her and do not want them written or discussed about in the social media, advise them. Dissuade them from politics. Make them give up their constitutional positions. Make them live private lives. Like goats, tether them because if you let them loose, writers will beat them senseless. If you benefit from his position in so many ways and he throws at you a few pounds or dollars ‘yike kuany thoo’, please eat quietly, baba. The position he holds is not familial; it’s public. There are good leaders out there who are leading by example. No one can talk bad of them because they are living up work ethics and are doing what they were assigned to do, perfectly. Enquire about the ministers of Oil, Telecommunication, Education, Health and many others. Learn to separate your political national figure uncle from agut-ajith or agut-raan or agut-wong uncle lest social media discussions about him make you run around naked. Remember, eat whatever you’re eating from your uncle but chew it quietly. Tearz © 2014
