TODAY MARKS OUR 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY!! Since the founding (exactly one year ago today) of our volunteer group LUV 4 Animals, we have directly helped at least 245 animals (not all transports and fosters have been added to the helped by LUV album) from the shelter either through medical funding, spay/neuter sponsorship, transporting, gas money funded and fostering. This doesnt even include the hours and money of our own spent and the countless other animals we have helped at the shelter through cleaning, grooming, exercising, taking pics and videos, giving medications and vaccinations and attending adoption events and holding fundraisers. And not to forget the animals we have found homes and rescue for through our relentless networking. Unfortunately our celebration is being impeded by a dark cloud. As you know, the volunteers of this group have become the target of an enraged Lewis County ACO and Commission and they have requested our termination as volunteers. There is no denying the impact the volunteers have had and honestly I dont know what these poor animals will do without true advocates to care for them. The only losers in this situation will be the animals if the right decision isnt made. Before hearing of the request for termination it was our goal to set up a Like challenge. We wanted to challenge our 1,132 Likers to donate just $1 each in celebration of our 1 year anniversary. Now we are hesitant as we arent so sure of our fate as volunteers at LUAC. We wouldnt think that our sponsorship abilities should be hindered simply because we cant physically be there but who knows. Hopefully it can continue to be LUAC but if not we will simply find a new shelter that is volunteer friendly and take our advocacy else where.
