TOP 10 CONTENDERS FOR THE PREMIER LEAGUE GOLDEN BOOT 10) Romelu Lukaku (Everton) A player fast becoming regarded as one of the best young strikers in the world, Evertons new £28m signing Romelu Lukaku has been superb in.the last two seasons in loan spells with the Toffees and West Bromwich Albion before them. Chelsea may not have fancied the Belgian forward, but he could be a decent outside bet to finish as top scorer in the Premier League this season. 9) Yaya Toure (Manchester City) The only non-striker to make it onto this list, Manchester City star Yaya Toure simply has to be considered as among the candidates to win the Golden Boot after his superb scoring record from midfield last season. The Ivory Coast star took his game to a whole new level, scoring 20 goals in 35 appearances in the league, behind only Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge in the scorers chart in 2013/14. 8) Olivier Giroud (Arsenal) Not the most reliable player in front of goal, but Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud is one of the Premier Leagues under-rated talents and continues to show signs of improvement after two years with the Gunners. The French international was superb in his days at Montpellier as his goals fired them to the Ligue 1 title, and with Arsene Wengers side hoping to build on last seasons FA Cup win, Giroud may benefit as the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil improve and Theo Walcott returns from injury to provide him with more goalscoring chances. 7) Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal) Not an out-and-out striker, but it has been hinted that Arsenal could use their new £35m signingAlexis Sanchez upfront this season to compete with Giroud for that lone centre- forward role. Also a capable goalscorer from out wide, the Chilean international is a superb talent and will be one to watch in the Premier League this season as among the most exciting new arrivals to the English top flight. 6) Wayne Rooney (Manchester United) After a couple of slightly ineffective seasons in.front of goal, Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has been in good form in pre- season and may benefit from the arrival of Louis van Gaal as the clubs new manager. The England international was slightly off- colour at this summers World Cup as well, but on his day possesses the poachers instinct as well as ability from a variety of angles and distances to make himself one of the top strikers in the country. 5) Edin Dzeko (Manchester City) A player who hit a rich vein of form towards the.end of last season, Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko will be hoping to build on his fine run in front of goal in his sides title run-in in 2013/14..The Bosnian international scored 16 times in total in the Premier League, and although he is not always a regular due to some stern competition for places in this City side, he remains one of the most prolific forwards in the English top flight and indeed Europe. 4) Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool) Part of the reason Liverpool were so good to watch last season, Daniel Sturridge was in inspired form in front of goal for the Reds in 2013/14, scoring 21 goals in 29 games in the Premier League after forming a superb partnership with Luis Suarez. Although the Uruguayan, winner of the Golden Boot last term, has now left Anfield, Sturridge still remains a threat and will be hoping to be the sides main star now as he looks to be in and among the leading scorers in the country again. 3) Robin van Persie (Manchester United) Winner of the Golden Boot in 2012 and 2013, Robin van Persie will be hoping to get back to his best this season after an injury-hit campaign last term in a generally difficult season under David Moyes. With Manchester United now managed by his old national team boss Louis van Gaal, the Dutchman is sure to raise his game and show why he is one of the worlds best strikers again. 2) Sergio Aguero (Manchester City) An absolutely expert finisher, Manchester City will be hoping to keep Sergio Aguero fit this season, with the prolific Argentine managing 17 goals in just 23 games last season as he missed a large chunk of the campaign through injury. With City continuing to entertain and create chances under Manuel Pellegrini, Aguero should benefit from plenty of opportunities to score goals and will be a strong contender to lead the scoring charts at the end of the season. 1) Diego Costa (Chelsea) Chelseas exciting new signing after joining in a £32m move from Atletico Madrid, Diego Costa was one of the best strikers in Europe last season, scoring 27 goals for Diego Simeones title winning side in La Liga, finishing just behind Barcelona star Lionel Messi and Real Madrids Cristiano Ronaldo on 28 and 31 goals, respectively. Despite a poor World Cup, the Spaniard will be a force to be reckoned with after appearing to settle in quickly in pre- season, and theres no reason to think he wont instantly become one of the best attacking players in England. *Who do you think will be the premier league top scorer this season?
