TORKPOR YASSA YUMBU YAMBA!!!! ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL MELODY FROM OUR GOLDEN MENDE CULTURE!!!!!! BUT PRESIDENT KOROMAS GOVERNMENT HAS FAILED THE PEOPLE OF SIERRA LEONE!!!!!! The President last night announced the ISOLATION of most parts of Sierra Leone. The key words here are: ISOLATION vs QUARANTINE! In simple terms ISOLATION is a broad concept that has a devastating economic, social and psychological impact on an entire nation. ISOLATION means we will lose foreign investment. No foreign investment means no jobs for our people. ISOLATION means higher food prices, higher food prices means our people will continue to starve to death. ISOLATION means a loss of international credibility. With no international credibility our voice will not be heard. ISOLATION leaves a stigma that may take a generation to break. It seems like the government has been slow to appreciate the devastating long term consequences of their miserable failure to deal effectively with the Ebola outbreak. This government is not working, this government is clueless. Keeping our folks safe from harm is your most sacred duty. We are told De Pa di wok....Well it is on issues like this that we test the validity of that statement. This Ebola situation, is a matter of life and death. It is right and proper that questions are asked about the ministry of healths prevention and containment strategy or the lack thereof of said strategy. Governments take responsibility and should be held accountable for what they are paid and elected to do. We are watching closely! The BBCs Umaru Fofana in the Sierra Leone capital Freetown says health officials have admitted that the lockdown has exposed the countrys inadequate response capability. Ambulances are in short supply, as are the isolation wards to look after patients, with almost all Ebola treatment centres confined to the east of the country, he says. There are also too few teams available to bury the dead, partly because of the social stigma attached to the role. No wonder we are in this mess, if this is the kind of incompetence on display in State House.
