TOWSON UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF FINE ARTS & COMMUNICATION MASTER OF ARTS IN INTERDISCIPLINARY ARTS INFUSION POSITION: Program Director/Visiting Assistant or Associate Professor APPOINTMENT: This is a 10 month appointment SALARY: Commensurate with experience RESPONSIBILITIES: . Program administration, including marketing, recruiting students and hiring faculty . Strategic leadership . Fiscal leadership . Teaching graduate level arts integration and arts infusion courses for both the Masters and Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in AI Programs . Graduate student advising . Advocacy for arts in education . Staffing . Curriculum development and assessment The successful candidate will report directly to the Dean of the College of Fine Arts & Communication. NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS: A terminal degree in art, music, theatre, or dance, with record of expertise in K-12 education; (OR) a terminal degree in education with expertise in the arts or arts integration. Evidence of leadership in program innovation, development, implementation and evaluation of curriculum. Evidence of successful experience with creating and fostering community and collaborative partnerships. The successful candidate will have a substantive record of scholarship, teaching and/or creative production that is reflective of a multidisciplinary, community-based focus. Excellent written and oral communication and organizational skills are essential. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively at multiple levels (national, statewide, local) and with a diverse range of participants. Demonstrated excellence in teaching in a community-based, K-12, or university context. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of two years successful university teaching and experience with K-12 populations. Demonstrated record of awarded grant writing to support teaching, research and/or creative work. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts Infusion (MAIAI) is a newly developed program that exemplifies Towson Universitys commitment to innovation in teacher education. Graduates will be collaborators equipped to lead innovation in teaching, learning and school reform. The arts create innovators, build the creative class and bridge communities in new paradigms for action. The primary constituencies are artists, educators and school administrators. The broader context of this degree embraces a larger population of learners within the diverse community of business leaders and visionaries, entrepreneurial philanthropists, advocates, health and wellness specialists, cultural ambassadors, leaders in marketing and promotion, urban and civic development and government. These individuals will learn how to infuse their work with the skills and techniques of the arts disciplines. Arts infusion uses arts and non-arts knowledge as a multidisciplinary tool for an integrated study of issues, problem solving and decision making in a climate of inquiry. Arts infusion is an elaboration of arts integration in that an integrated study of arts and non-arts form the primary basis for constructing knowledge. Towson University is uniquely qualified to conduct the program due to extensive faculty research and curricular development in creative process, collaborations, entrepreneurial and artistic exchanges.
