TRUE REPENTANCE (Do you love your sin more than you love God?) Repentance is a gift. It means you can fall down in the mud and get back up and be washed off like you were never dirty. It is not only a change in the way we think but it is a change in what we do. Its turning away from the evil in the world and moving into the direction of Gods will for us. One of the most important stories we can look at about repentance is the prodigal son. It shows us the ungrateful heart condition we have when we become unsatisfied with what our father has for us. It shows our hearts turning from the will of God to the desires of the flesh. It shows us the consequences of sin to the point were the son is living in the mire with pigs. That frighting picture is how God sees men who have chose sin over Him. But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: “A dog returns to his own vomit,” and, “a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire. 2 Peter 2:22 Children of God acknowledge God in all they do. They say, I love you Father, with the decisions they make. But dogs, when barked at without hesitation bark back because they are driven by instinct. In the same way when we are tempted we just run to sin instead of acknowledging God. If you are a person struggling with sin and giving into temptation there is something I would encourage you to do if you want to overcome it. Each time you make the choice to do what you know you shouldnt do, be honest with yourself and before God and tell Him, Father, I choose to do this because I love this sin more than I love You. Just that thought should pierce a mans heart but that is the reality of the choice. We cant choose sin and choose Gods will at the same time. Its one or the other. We will choose what is good or we choose vomit and pigs. Satan will try to make that vomit look like it is served from a five star restaurant but its still vomit any way you look at it. God gave us all a sound mind. We can choose between good and evil because the Holy Spirit in us always points us to God. We are children of God not dogs. The grace He poured out for us and the forgiveness we received from the shedding of His blood is not an excuse to sin. That is the exact reason we should do our very best to live holy just like He asked us to do. Take a look at this message Jesus gave those members of the church that choose sin over Him. 4 Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. 5 Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent. Rev 2 If we love Him we will obey Him. If we have not been obedient the time has come to repent and turn from sin and to Him. The conviction we feel in spirit is a beautiful thing. Look at what it produces: 10 For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death. 11 For observe this very thing, that you sorrowed in a godly manner: What diligence it produced in you, what clearing of yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what vehement desire, what zeal, what vindication! In all things you proved yourselves to be clear in this matter. 2 Cor 7 Once you have found yourself free and clear of doing the things you know you should not do. Go and sin no more! From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Matt 4:17
