TWO Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldiers guarding Toro King Oyo Nyimba on Sunday died instantly along Mityana Mubende Road when the King’s convoy was involved in an accident. Police identified the deceased as Cherop K Alex and Herbert Mulindwa. According to police, the deceased were in the convoy’s lead car that lost control after it was trying to avoid contact with a Boda Boda cyclist who was lying injured on the road. Mubende district Police chief Enock Abaine said, “A speeding lorry from Kampala had earlier knocked down the cyclist before the King’s convoy arrived. The driver was trying to avoid the cyclist at Katabalanga village near Mubende NTC who was lying injured in the road causing the cnvoy’s lead car to veer off the road, ramming into a nearby tree.” He noted the lead car, a double cabin red in colour with personalized number plates had eight people on board with the six survivors sustaining injuries. “Two among the injured were in critical condition and were rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital while the four were taken to Mubende Hospital for treatment,” Abaine added. Among the victims still at Mubende Hospital include two UPDF officers, Samson Sonny Otemo and Francis Balinde as well as Innoncent Nteziyaremye a civilian. The police chief noted that the King was safe adding that he didn’t sustain any injuries from the incident.
