#Tajik #President Aims to Expand #Cooperation with #Cuba Dushanbe, Tajikistan.-President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rakhmon, expressed today the hope for cooperation with Cuba at the economic and commercial level, as he received the credentials of the new Cuban ambassador, Carlos Valdés. Welcoming the diplomat residing in Astana, Kazakhstan, the leader of the Central Asian republic sent warm greetings to President Raul Castro and the Cuban people, wishing them success and prosperity. Relations bewteen Tajikistan and Cuba have been always friendly and should be strengthened, said the head of State. Valdes, meanwhile, expressed his thanks for the affectionate words from Raul Castro and reiterated confidence in the successful development of bilateral ties through mutually beneficial cooperation in areas such as health, education and culture. He also thanked Tajikistan for its support for Cuba demand to eliminate the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on the island by the United States for more than half a century, and stressed Cubas friendly feelings for the Tajik people. Rajmon received credentials today from 10 countries ambassadors in addition to those from Cuba, including Cyprus, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Slovakia, Georgia, Palestine, South Korea, Serbia, Sudan and Turkmenistan. The new concurrent ambassador was also received at the seat of the Parliament by the chairman of the International Relations Salimzoda Olim, and the deputy Galia Rabiova, head of Group of Friendship with Cuba, at the legislative chamber of the Central Asian nation. The hosts welcomed the information provided by Valdés on the current state of affairs on the island, especially in regard to the case of the Cuban Five incarcerated in the United States. The new concurrent ambassador also conducted a working meeting with the leadership of the Tajik Society of Friendship and Cultural Relations with the Peoples of the World and the board of the Tajikistan-Cuba Friendship Association.
