Taking a moment this morning to ponder social media and something - TopicsExpress

Taking a moment this morning to ponder social media and something Im noticing more and more... a very pervasive negativity. A friend of mine posted Im on day 5 of exercising... cmon everybody, lets get active!. She received lots of likes and a negative comments from a friend who blasted her for not understanding that she couldnt get active because of her neck. Hmmmm. Another friend (who has breast cancer) completed her training for a run to raise awareness and got jabbed by friends that told her she was supporting an organization who hurt the unborn. (She wasnt... but thats beside the point) And just yesterday, our station passed out 50,000 Free Chicken Sandwiches to DFW and someone posted (and blasted) we shouldnt do it and instead raise awareness for our brothers and sisters being hurt in the middle east. Hmmmmm. My Mom always said, If you cant say something nice, dont say anything at all. And, dont get me wrong... I believe in free speech, etc. But Facebok, Twitter and other social media is turning into a place where people... most of them cowards... are randomly doing what they can to tear other people down and just cause problems. People are offended by the most ridiculous things. My buddy Cowboy Chris did a fun video promoting our Metrobless event and used humor to further it. Of course someone posted something negative and was offended that he was making fun of our armed forces. (For the record, one of the people in the video served in the armed forces) We love our brave men and women serving us... we pray for them daily... and the video was done in a spirit of fun and humor and was promoting a day of giving. But that doesnt really matter does it? Something good cant be left alone... we have to tear it down. Someone is trying to effect change? Well lets make ourselves feel better by posting something negative. Its exhausting and frustrating and I cant understand why it happens. Were supposed to encourage each other... support each other... love each other... so why the negativity? If you are passionate about a cause: support it. Give generously of your time, money and prayers. But dont attack others who dont share that same passion. Otherwise, youre not a friend... youre just one of the countless many who use social media as a whip to inflict harm on others. So in writing this I want to encourage you all: be kind. Be gracious. Ask yourself, Does what Im saying reflect Gods love and forgiveness? And, Repeat after me: If you cant say something nice, dont say anything at all.
