Tea Tree Oil Tea tree oil is an antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory oil taken from the tea tree plant, which is native to Australia and New Zealand. Tea tree oil is known to be as effective at treating acne as benzoyl peroxide cream, but it can also be applied to specifically treat and minimize blemish redness. Tea tree oil can be too strong when applied straight, so the oil should be diluted. An easy way to dilute the oil is to dip a cotton swab into pure tea tree oil, then into water. Apply the oil to the blemished areas that are red or inflamed. The skin will feel cool for around 2 minutes. Repeat up to three times per day. Baking Soda Baking soda is very alkaline and will kill off bacteria that contribute to acne blemishes. Applying baking soda to the skin can reduce blemish redness while eliminating acne at the same time. Baking soda can be applied in a couple different ways. The first method as to use baking soda as a toner. Fill a clean spritz bottle with water, and add 2 tbsp. baking soda. Spray clean skin with the toner and allow it to dry. The second method is to use baking soda as a scrub. Combine 1 tbsp. baking soda with 1 tsp. of water, and massage the paste onto the blemishes and areas with redness. Rinse well after 1 minute. Oatmeal Oatmeal is highly nutritive and contains vitamin E, which reduces redness and inflammation. Oatmeal can be applied as a facial mask by mixing 1/2 cup raw oats with 1 cup hot water. Once the mixture cools, spread it onto the skin and let it sit for 10 minutes. Rinse the oatmeal off with cool water. Oatmeal can be applied to the skin every day to reduce blemish redness.
