Tell me about the UNIQUENESS of the AFRICANS and I will graciously - TopicsExpress

Tell me about the UNIQUENESS of the AFRICANS and I will graciously tell you about mine in no other continent but in yours -AFRICA was what my American friend told me. Confused!! I asked, do you mean the American uniqueness is in Africa?? Yes he said. Look around. How many of your celebrities and influential people look African? They almost look and sound like my people. Or?? Now I am quiet, because thats the truth. You see, I have adopted brothers and sisters in Africa. Yall want to look like us. We know it and we dont mind. It makes us proud of our influence he says with a grin on his face. I challenged him and I pondered over what he said when I went home. After reflecting, I can understand why he has that audacity to say what he said to me earlier. We have allowed them to make us hate our rich skin tone, our hair texture, our rich culture and continent as a whole because we see the little contribution our predecessors are doing to preserve what we have and appreciate who we are. The youth look around for people to look up to and all we see are people we knew in the past who are now looking like foreigners; bleached their skin and now looking almost like MJ. All in the name of acceptance and looking beautiful (toning and brighting the skin color). We look again and want to learn from our own people and now all we hear is a black man/woman talking like a white man/woman (slurring papapaa). Why wont my friend have that nerve to say they are proud of their influence on us. We even want to sound like him. Kyer3 s3 we dierr we dont want to preserve anything of ours. All we are doing is cut and paste.. Smh We look again and now I know my well educated TODAYS WOMAN SUPER WOMAN I HAVE GOT IT ALL mentor will save us- rather they tell us, we understand everything but you know, to be accepted in the working environment you have to look professional. So I ask myself what is professional because I know at least am not in tatted clothes or torn shoes. And they say the hair must me professional. My hair??? What about it?? Its natural she says!!! Wow!! The hair texture God gave me is a problem??? But its not a problem if I have borrowed some other races hair right?? My kinky hair is not professional? And the super women I always admire on TV and listen to on radio says, oh you see I also have natural hair but I dont wear it wen I am going to work. I either wear a wig cap or wear extensions. It all comes with the job my dear, especially if you want to go far with your career. This is what media and socialization is teaching us. One must have a foreign accent to play prestigious roles ( emphasis is not if he/ she is speaking good English, rather, if he or she has a foreign accent). A black woman needs to tone her rich black skin tone to get lead roles in the media, be accepted/respected or find a man because the men too have been brainwashed to find a woman who will brighten their corner hehhehe ASEM OOO. The Black women cant love their natural hair because the black women they look up to hide their black rich hair all in the name of PROFESSIONAL LOOK. I didnt know God wasnt professional. Senior high school girls are in a hurry to perm their hair to feel beautiful and accepted. They will do anything to get that extra cash to buy that expensive hair. She will come for that interview and you will tell her her she should do something about her natural kinky hair God has given to her. So you will employ her but she has to perm or wear hair extensions to look professional. She will be worried and then make up her mind to perm or do something professional to her hair. Who will pay for it, your dear husband, and you will call men cheats!!! I dont expect you to comment when you hear rape cases, theft, prostitution amongst young girls. Its your silent actions that make them do what they do to be accepted. You make them feel ugly when really they are very beautiful in their own way. They dont see much of you MENTORS looking like them so what do you expect them to do? You preach to young girls to have a high self- esteem but in your corner you use that bleaching cream and pour it in an ALL PURE NATURAL AFRICAN SHEER BUTTER container. You cant leave the house without your wig cap/ hair and eye lash extensions. Dont tell me about youth empowerment when you need to be empowered yourself. Its not all about the talk talk- some of us little souls learn better by observing and looking up to people who walk the talk. Unfortunately most of the people who walk the talk are also not approachable ... So what are we going to do: learn from the MJs?? No!!! Embrace what we have and be proud of it. My friend tells me not to worry because theres only one solution! He says, Boo I think you are one of the very few women who look too African and trust me you will have to at least change a bit to be accepted ok?? No hard feelings!! At least Akua tone a bit, wear some Brazilian hair if you think the Peruvian hair is too expensive. Do this and when I come back to Ghana in two years or when am away, hit me up on whatsapp or FaceTime and share with me the positive results. Dont blame my friend we have allowed him to think and talk like this....the white man did nothing wrong. We gave him the power and we still make him powerful. I see the anger on your face but yes you helped made this happen. - the diaries of a black woman
