Ten reasons you should attend the "Fair Funding for our Schools" - TopicsExpress

Ten reasons you should attend the "Fair Funding for our Schools" advocacy event on Wed., Oct. 2! 1. You care about the future of YOUR child’s education, and the future of YOUR school district! 2. NYS funding for schools has gone backwards, and is now at 2008 levels. 3. Attending this forum will help you put local school budget challenges into a larger, statewide context. 4. Though Warwick and some other districts have fared better than others in recent years, managing to hold on to program and extracurriculars, we’re all on the same train heading towards a fiscal brick wall. Those at the front of the train are feeling it worse -- but only for now. That brick wall is right around the corner for us, too. 5. Over the past few years, NYS public schools have lost courses, programs, elementary arts, music and sports programs. Just in our region, our schools have lost $128 million in state funding this year alone due to the Gap Elimination Adjustment (GEA). 6. Speakers at the rally will explain the crisis in public education funding in New York in plain language and help us understand what the problem is -- and what we can do about it. 7. We need to show up and send the message that we’re not willing to stand by and allow our educational system to be dismantled, piece by piece. 8. You’ll leave this event with a list of action steps to use in advocating for fair funding for our schools. 9. Our legislators may not listen to the voices of a few, but they WILL hear the voices of many who speak together - with one voice, and one message. 10. The larger the crowd, the stronger the message! Please share information about this important event, and thanks for helping spread the word. Together we can help save public education in NY!
